For our preliminary task all we were given was a sheet of paper with a small script on it and some shots that had to be included. Such as, a shot of person A travelling up a flight of stairs and lines such as ‘Have you fed the fish?’. We then had to make this our own..
Originally, we thought of locating it at somebody's house as a casual
conversation between siblings. We then changed our location to a school,
this was because we had decided it was a more opened wide area which allows us to produce better quality shots, as houses can have quite limited space.
The preliminary task was a practice for us to get used to the camera for the first time and to use editing software and to get aware of the types of effects and the transitions of video editing. The editing software that we used was IMovie on the Mac. It was also a way of learning how the 180 degrees conversation used in many films, works between two people.
As a group decided to make it a "business" type genre hence the suits that were used in the piece of clip. We decided to make it a confidential meeting between the boss and his assistant, who perhaps share some unexpected business which is hidden between the school. This idea of Daniel and Alex both checking the time, shows how just important their meeting is. We also decided to show the difference statuses between the character's by using different levels & body languages.
Problems~
When editing the piece of video clips in IMovie, we had to cut down and trim the shots so they would flow smoothly and continuous rather than being jumpy or to avoid it from stuttering. Not only did we trim the clips down to run in order.
At the start of our filming, the battery ran out before we even got to film. We were already outside the school by then, so we had to waste time going to get a fully charged battery for the camera.
When me and Daniel were putting all of the clips together, we had some problems with iMovie and it decided to delete the final .mov file several times and the project file became corrupt which made the standard of our editing not as good as it could have been. I think that if we as a group had less problems with the software, the final .mov file of the preliminary task would have been a lot better and probably would have contained more adjustments to make it run smoothly with fades and other video effects would have been added.
The shoes changed in the clip which was one of the mistakes that we made but we had no time to do anything about it. it would have been easier to create a plan for our pelimenary task so we knew what to bring on that specific day, i.e the shoes and clothes that the characters were wearing.
In a school wasn't really an ideal to film the piece as it was quiet a loud and distracting place and you could hear that in the background noise of the piece.Maybe we could have deleted the sound of the original clip and replaced it with music but that would not have been possible because we had to use dialogue. Before taking the shots we decided to record the sound of traffic to place it over our video at the start where Daniel is walking with a phone. We also added a mobile phone sound at the start and make it in time with the characters (Daniel's) motion.
The toughest part was finalising it all, as there were so many mistakes to cut out, so it was tough finding all the best parts to place together perfectly.
bits of my mini preliminary task story board- which we changed hugely.

Originally, I was goin to play the receptionist but in the end that wasn't possible because we weren't allowed to film at the receptionists desk. Our whole sequence changed a lot when actually filming it, I think this was mainly because we were in quite a public place, so therefore not many facilities were open for us.
